URI Field Hockey was founded in 2008 by Jessica Foley, Samantha Pincins, and Jenna Oppel after the Division I program at the University was terminated. The three captains built the team from the ground up, recruiting athletes, creating a budget, and joining the National Field Hockey League. Since their graduation, the team has continued to grow. In the Spring of 2011, the team traveled to the University of Maryland for the annual NFHL spring tournament. In 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 the team finished the fall season ranked 13th in the nation, qualifying for and attending the NFHL Fall Championship during both seasons in Virginia Beach, VA.
